Kenny Anderson

Bio:

NBA All-Star legend Kenny Anderson, a product of the tough streets of Queens, NY, faced his fair share of adversities. However, he channeled his energy into Basketball, becoming a national superstar on the court. Despite his struggles with adverse childhood experiences, which Kenny candidly admits, his resilience and determination shone through. He acknowledges that while Basketball may have come easy, life was hard.

Anderson's journey continued at Bishop Malloy High School, where he honed his skills under the guidance of the legendary coach Jack Curran. By the time Kenny's high school career drew to a close, he had amassed an impressive list of accolades. Anderson was a four-time Parade All-American, the first player named All-New York City four times, and a McDonald's All-American, and he was named All-State by the New York State Coaches Organization. Kenny's talents were recognized by Gatorade, the New York State Sportswriters Association, Parade, Naismith, and USA Today, and he was named High School Basketball Player of the Year.

Kenny went on to attend Georgia Tech, where depression took hold of him and wouldn't let go, but he kept growing professionally. As Georgia Tech's starting point guard, Kenny worked under head coach Bobby Cremins for two years. Anderson and his "Lethal Weapon Three" teammates Brian Oliver and Dennis Scott led the team to the Final Four in 1990. Kenny was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 1990 and was named an All-American in both seasons at Georgia Tech.

1991, the New Jersey Nets picked Anderson as number two in the NBA Draft. Kenny shot to superstardom as he played professional Basketball for 14 years. Making a name for himself with legendary NBA teams like the Nets, Charlotte Hornets, and the Boston Celtics, Kenny was on top. He was even the NBA All-Star in 1994. Today, Anderson is Head Coach for Fisk University, the oldest historically black institution of higher education in Nashville, TN. Kenny enjoys being a supportive and sympathetic advocate for the students at Fisk University. He makes it his mission to travel the country and tell his story.
