Rabbi Joshua Ben-Gideon

Joshua Ben-Gideon

Born and raised in and around Albany, NY, Rabbi Joshua Ben-Gideon chose his path based upon the advice of a mentor to choose a profession where he felt he could contribute something no one else could. This advice helped him realize that his professional future would be in Jewish life. The opportunity to care for people during challenging times, to be present with them in grief and to celebrate with them and enrich the joy of happy moments are at the core of what called him to become a rabbi.

Rabbi Joshua Ben-Gideon met his wife Rabbi Rebeccca Ben-Gideon at the Jewish Theological Seminary in NYC where their twin girls Lena and Vered were born. Their son Noam was born four years later in Fairfax, Virginia where he began his career as an Assistant and then Associate Rabbi at Congregation Olam Tikvah. The Ben-Gideon family relocated to Madison, Wisconsin for nine years while Rabbi Joshua Ben-Gideon was the rabbi for nine transformative years of Beth Israel Center.

Now Rabbi of Beth David Synagogue here in Greensboro, Rabbi Ben-Gideon is known for his thoughtful and compassionate presence, for his ability to bring spiritual and strategic vision to his work guiding communities and for his commitments to interfaith work and addressing the needs of the broader community in which he lives. He serves on a number of boards including Out of the Garden’s – a vital institution in Guilford county that fights food insecurity.

A die hard Redsox fan, when not at synagogue or with his family, you can often find him on the country roads around Greensboro on his bicycle.
